Covid Considerations

  • As we all know, COVID has posed many challenges to travel. Restrictions and regulations are continually changing. This following information is current as of March 17, 2021 and will be updated periodically as circumstances related to the pandemic change. Roatan is open for visitors and has minimal COVID restrictions at present time.
  • Travelers must provide negative COVID-19 test results prior to traveling to Honduras. Travelers must hand-carry the negative test results for a PCR or rapid test taken less than 72 hours before entry into Honduras. Passengers must show the test results at check-in.
  • Accepted Tests for COVID-19:
    • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test in real-time.
    • Rapid Test with a minimum Specificity of 85%, Sensitivity of 98%
  • Prior to departing Roatan to return to the USA, you will need to obtain a negative PCR test in Roatan. Currently, there are testing centers that offer same day PCR tests for $50. Hope Corps will provide transportation to the testing site, but each student is responsible for the costs of the test.
  • For the health and safety of all involved, please do NOT travel to ITW if you:
    • Within the past fourteen (14) days have experienced any symptoms associated with COVID-19, which include fever, cough, and shortness of breath among others;
    • Believe that you may have been exposed to a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and are not yet cleared as non-contagious by state or local public health authorities or the health care team responsible for your treatment.

Hope Corps personnel will pick up students at the airport and transfer to the Training Center.

ITW Travel Tips*

  • Please arrive early afternoon. Mid-morning or early afternoon is best for departures. Students should not arrive before the start date nor stay after the departure date.
  • Safety is first priority. We suggest that all layovers take place in the USA instead of a foreign country (San Salvador, El Salvador but especially San Pedro Sula or Tegucigalpa on mainland Honduras). This recommendation is especially important for students under the age of 25 and/or those traveling alone.
  • Passports are required to travel outside of your country of origin. Passport applications can take up to 6 weeks to process. Passport Application: U.S. Passport | Canadian Passport
  • Roatan runs on American voltage. Converters are not needed.
  • Visit your doctor or local health clinic for advice for any recommended immunizations for Roatan, Honduras.
  • Students are allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item – no checked luggage.

*Students are required to make their own travel arrangements and book their own flights. All airfare tickets are purchased at the student’s own risk. Hope Corps is not responsible for any fees incurred as a result of flight cancellation or the student’s inability to attend ITW due to incomplete coursework.

ITW Uniform Guidelines

General Guidelines

The idea of a uniform is to be uniform. In past ITWs some students have tried to be very “creative” in establishing their own identity or style. However, this has sacrificed the uniformity that we are trying to achieve. This is not a special meeting… this is Intensive Training Week!
